No, first of all, branding is not the same as advertising and promotion regardless of what you referring either product, company, country or blog.
Promotional messages contained in advertising are critical components to getting out the messages about your blog and its products, contents and services. But advertising campaigns can come and go, shifting according to the specific needs of your blog over time. They are dynamic.
On the other hand, your brand is permanent. It consistently reinforces the appropriate messages to your key readers. A brand is the core identity of your blog in this case. Your dot-com is what appears on the bottom of your ad and represents the personality that goes to the heart of your positioning. Your brand is bigger than any advertising, public relations, direct mail campaign or RSS feeds you will ever do.
It is the one thing that doesn’t change.
