Getting organized at work

Letter_2I wonder how many of you noticed that I have started to put a series of number in my new entries.

Yes, I will continue to blog a series of entries which are related to a specific topic for this year, it’s actually part of my new year’s resolution.

Ok, in <Post 1> I have gathered a short question on “Time Management”, how do we look at it in our daily work. You see getting organized at work is not exclusively for bloggers or Webmasters only, but could be applied to any walks of life, be it a CEO. Let discuss this topic further.

Organize for success - Previously, I have blogged multiple entries on “How to make money online”, “How to attract traffic”, “What others you can sell as a Blogger” and some related entries on “Improve your blog to make money” such as make it load faster, putting some useful Wordpress plugin to enhance the presentation of your blog and of course you will need some blogoships (here, here, here and here) to survive in this highly competitive blogging arena.

When you are on the right track, then definitely you will need to manage your time and getting organized at work (blogging?).

So in this series, I will be blogging on “How to”, points and criteria on setting goals, establish priorities and of course how to manage your time.

Many time management courses talk about the ability to change time and reality. For me, that seems impractical. Instead of actling like the salmon and swimming against the current, go with the flow – but add structure and discipline.

Take some time to analyze your time and try to answer sincerely to yourself:

a)       Why are you doing it?
b)       What you are doing?
c)       When are you doing it?

Need some tips? Try to follow these simple three steps:

1)       Keep track of your time (work and personal) for a week. It may surprise you to find out how much tasks and activities take.
2)       Then, analyze your findings. Identify any activities that are unnecessary and eliminate them.
3)       Find or create times that you could block off for important tasks or activities that have a high payoff. Sometimes these tasks and activities get delayed because of things that are relatively less important or even unnecessary.

Once you have started to keep track of your time for a week, you should see patterns in activities, tasks, interruptions, and unplanned events. Once you see those patterns, use the strategies (which will be posted in the next entry, stay tuned) to tackle them more effectively.

You see, the key is action. Pick two or three ideas or strategies at a time and work on them until they become a habit. Then pick two or three more and practice on them until they become your natural behavior. At the end of every week, ask yourself what you could do better for next week. In addition, realize that there are two aspects to saving time:

a)       Improving your time management skills
b)       Training others so their time management skills don’t interfere with yours.

Stay tuned for more strategies, tips and how to improve your time management skill. 8-)
